Jane Marie Raftery (Age 56)

Died on Saturday, December 31, 2016, after a surprisingly sudden and grueling fight with cancer. A native Washingtonian the beloved daughter, friend and sister spent much of her professional life in New York, Atlanta and Chicago and ultimately back in the Washington D. C. area. Born to S. Frank “Bud” Raftery and his wife Marjorie Jane “Marge”, (née Belt) Raftery. Ms. Raftery is survived by her sisters Marjorie Jo “Maggie” Raftery, Barbara Sue “Bobbie” Raftery, Mary Ann Forbes, Virginia “Ginny” Cameron and brother J. Patrick Raftery. Warm hearted, talented, bold and charming Ms. Raftery was a specialist in HR and at the time of her death worked for The National Institutes of Health. A passionate stage performer she was often heard singing in DC area theatres and as a cabaret artist in New York City. Jane was comforted in the final stages of her life by close friends and family, her religious community and her strong faith. Visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Thursday, January 5, from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM., where Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 6, at 11 AM. Jean Alliantin Laventure (Age 70)

On Saturday, December 24, 2016, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband Marie Iramene Laventure, father of Addy Laventure, Diane Laventure, Brill Laventure, and Jean Junior Laventure; grandfather of Kiarra Laventure, Alice Laventure, Myrna Laventure, Zoe Laventure. and Ada-Marie Laventure; brother of Silvie Cupidon, Victane Cupidon, Violette Pharisien, Chrisnel Cupidon, Oston Cupidon, Jacqueline Cupdion, and Mariette Cupidon. Family will receive friends at Eglise Baptiste du Calvaire, 10002 Riggs Road, Adelphi, MD, Friday, December 30, from 10 to 11 a.m.; where the Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m.  Interment private.

Moraima Sosa (Age 62)

On Wednesday, December 28, 2016, of Miami, FL, formerly of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved wife of Jose Laureano; daughter of Rafael and the late Maria Sosa;  mother of Verushka (Carlos) Avila, Moraima (Nestor) Leon and Raphael (Maria) Laureano;  sister of Carlos (Ivette) Tijero, the late Dimitriz Tijero, Hildegardis Sosa and Amor (Jimmie) Brown.  Also survived by ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.  Relatives and friends may call at  Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Sunday, January 8, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside Service and interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10 a.m.

RAQUEL  MARIA TENAGLIA

Robert Samuel McMillan, Jr. (Age 82)

NICHOLAS GEORGE LUNGOCIU

Born in Glass Port, PA, November 30, 1920. Died Friday, December 23, 2016, Silver Spring MD.  He was a devoted husband to Sylvia and loving father of Daniel (Marie), Linda (David), Rodica (Thomas), Cornell (Rene), Michael (Kimberly). He had eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was a tireless defender of freedom from communist oppression in Eastern Europe, a 32nd Degree Mason and Founder of Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church in Alexandria, VA. Services will held at St Marks, 7124 River Rd, Bethesda, MD 20817 on Tuesday December 27 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Vatra Romanesc, Grass Lake, MI on Thursday December 29. May His Memory Be Eternal.
